I highly recommend The Well Decorated Cake, by Toba Garrett. I appreciate books like this, that have lots of clear, concise written directions and pictures that match.
Toba’s cakes are stunning! The cakes feature lots of intricate, unique, designs piped in royal icing. Even if you might not be a fan of fine royal icing work, this book has much more information on a variety many other wedding cake topics:
- cake construction
- decorating in buttercream icing
- making sugarpaste/gumpaste flowers
- blown sugar balls
- modeling chocolate
