Online Cake Decorating Stores
These are online Canadian cake decorating supply stores I have come across (Note, I have not necessarily tried ordering through all these yet myself):

So far I’ve tried ordering online through Golda’s Kitchen and Ebay.ca.
I got my turntable and my airbrush & compressor from Golda’s Kitchen, and I was really pleased. It was really time to get a good quality turntable. Golda’s website was pretty good; they have plenty of products with pictures, and she was fast to respond, and shipping was reasonable. And sometimes I like to use Ebay.ca for specific specialty items.
I was thinking of ordering through Global Sugar Art (based out of the U.S.), but after calculating duties and customs fees, it came out to about the same as Golda’s.
If online doesn’t work for you, craft & hobby stores sometimes carry cake decorating supplies. Michael’s (the arts & craft store) is usually one of the places I check out. They carry tons of Wilton stuff. The next place in Calgary I also often check out is PM Hobbycraft. Click for a list of retail cake decorating supply stores in Calgary.

I too had the same issue with finding stores in Canada to order cake decorating supplies from. I found Golda to be my first choice, since you don’t pay as much for the shipping charges as you would if you ordered from the States. Michaels isn’t too bad but only if you use the weekly coupons that are available. In general, I have to agree that it is very hard to find baking supplies here in Canada. In fact, I was trying to track down some fish moulds and the only placed I found them was at http://www.sugarcraft.com. It was painful to see that almost half of the total price of the moulds was the shipping charge 😦
One another note, I just wanted to say that your work is amazing and that you definitely have a talent for cake decorating! I was also pleasantly surprised to discover that you are Calgarian (I saw that you participated in last year’s Cake Walk – I will be participating in this year’s event), like me, and that you share the same passion for cake decorating as I do 🙂 Keep up the amazing work!

I went to PM hobbycraft the other day and they seems like they were sold out of many things – maybe in anticipation for the Cake Walk!
Locally in Calgary, there is also http://www.cakesnmore.ca/ – The owner, Deanne Brews, runs a small business out of her basement, and she carries tons of gumpaste and sugarcraft supplies. She also brings her store to the monthly Sugarcraft Guild (http://www.calgarysugarcraftguild.ca/) meetings.
Thanks! I’ll definitely check out those sites. I might send Deanne an email to see if she has any moulds (Sugar Craft just contacted me today to tell me that they are out of fish moulds – yikes!). As for the Sugarcraft Guild, it sounds really interesting. How does it work exactly?

Where could u purchase cake trays\pans that are over 3 inches in height? It’s easy to find ones that are wider then they are higher.

Thank you for your question. I find that pans that are over 3″ in height are rare because cakes this deep take longer to bake, upwards of 1-1.5 hours or more. I prefer to bake in 1″ or 2″ layers to allow for even baking, which takes less time. If you must extend the height of your cake pan, you can grease the sides of the pan and line it with long strips of parchment paper or aluminum foil which extends over the height of the pan.
The Fat Daddio brand does offer 4″ tall cake pans, http://www.goldaskitchen.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=9284&step=4. Another option are cake rings.

My wife was a preeminent cake decorator in Lambton County, Ontario years ago. She also taught it at Lambton College for several years. She is gone now and I have a lot of equipment that I would like to dispose of. Any ideas?
